Meet The Team

Tom, Mark and Mike (Left to Right) make up the three young crew of the Rutland Skiff Team. They've sailed together at Rutland water for a few years and sailed the Young and Reckless skiff for the 2011 season. They've all grown up in different sailing paths dreaming of one day sailing the grand 18ft Skiff, inspired by Awesome Aussie Skiffs from Australia. The main draw for the skiff is the pursuit of shear speed, and once they got enough experience, they took the plunge into the world of skiffs and simply haven't looked back. On the outside, the Rutland Team are an agile mouldable team of enthusiastic sailors, striving to sail the boat up to international level, but inside they're just small boys sailing a boat they thought they could only dream of sailing.

Tom- Helm
Tom is a university student studying Ship Science at Southampton Uni. He brings experience of helming many skiff like boats to keep the skiff pointing in the right direction and sailing fast.

Mark- Middleman
Mark has worked in the marine industry for many years. His boat maintenance knowledge helps keep the skiff on the water, and slots in the middle of the crew as the powerhouse engine of the boat.

Mike- Bowman
Mike is a teacher after his time at university, where he learnt alot of racing tactics through the Loughborough Uni team racing. Mike is agile at the front to suit the active role of bowman.

Ant- Coach
The team are lucky to have a fourth man, Ant. He has many years in skiff sailing and coaching, which combine to make him a valuable asset to the progress of the team. He's also a versatile crew and slots into positions when the rest of the crew cant make it.

Whilst having alot of enthusiasm and commitment to the skiff, the boys are a sociable team and are just as likely to be found propping up the bar with tales of the latest pitchpole as out on the water training.
